Pediatric palliative care training
At Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, we’re proud to be a leader in Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) and offer training to help provide exceptional care to children and families in need. We believe in sharing PPC knowledge through training and educating healthcare professionals. Together, we can improve care for children and families facing challenging circumstances.

Current training opportunities
Our training and education opportunities focus on pediatric palliative care, pain and symptom management, and pediatric advance care planning. We train health-care professionals and in BC and the Yukon, nationally, and internationally.

Fellowship and residency programs
Pediatric palliative medicine is focused on managing the symptoms, stress, and suffering of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. It spans the continuum of life and death for the child, and through bereavement for the child’s family. A primary goal is to improve quality of life for children and the families that love them.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada offers a two-year subspecialty in pediatric palliative medicine at the University of British Columbia.

Partnerships
We collaborate with partner organizations to advance and grow awareness of pediatric palliative care.
We are proud to partner with the Sunflower Children’s Network, an initiative of the Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration Foundation, which aims to improve care for children with life-limiting illnesses—especially in South Asia; and the BC Centre for Palliative Care, which accelerates innovation and best practices in palliative care.

Serious Illness Conversation Guide Pediatrics©
At Canuck Place, we provide family-centred care and aim to understand a family’s goals. But those conversations can be hard.
That’s where the Canuck Place Serious Illness Conversation Guide Pediatrics© (SICGPeds© ) comes in. Canuck Place SICGPeds© provides a systematic approach to conversations about children with serious illnesses, adapted from Ariadne Labs. Canuck Place can train pediatric health-care professionals to use the SICGPeds©.

ECHO series: Comfort with Complexity
Canuck Place partnered with BC Children’s Hospital and the BC Centre for Palliative Care (BC-CPC) to develop Pediatric ECHO: Comfort with Complexity. This 8-session series shares best practices for pediatric patients with serious illness, pain, and medical complexity.
